... reports from Buenos Aires, Argentina confirms the diagnosis of Rabies in a household pet cat, unvaccinated for Rabies. The cat was observed to have been playing with a bat, and was presumably exposed to the rabid bat. The cat died at a veterinary practice; with post mortem examination revealing rabies virus in the brain tissue.

... all in all, four people, the child who observed the cat playing with the bat, the father of the child, and two veterinary practice personnel, received vaccinations for Rabies as a post exposure measure.

... recommendations; household pet cats who rarely go out of doors, as well as pet cats allowed access to the out-of-doors, should be vaccinated for rabies, especially in rabies endemic areas. Whether one chooses annual vaccination, bi-yearly vaccination, or a three year vaccination protocol are based upon the recommendations of your families veterinarian, as well as public health officials in your geographical area.

From what you have experienced, you have become aware you are yet another internet scam victim.

The emails you have been receiving are part of a scam operation and should be regarded as such. Please do not trust the source of the email you received. These people copy information and logos from our website at www.airanimal.com and other legitimate websites and paste it to their e-mails in order to look legitimate.

Air Animal has only one office located in Tampa, Florida but we have found from previous scam victims that these imposters fabricate office branches in other states and even overseas.

They typically request payments be wired to the individual in Laounde, in Cameroon, a country in Africa. Do not wire any funds to anyone you do not know personally or anyone in another country, especially in Africa. These imposters have unfortunately scammed many people, both nationwide in the USA and globally throughout the world.

Please forward the correspondence you have had with these scammers to ...... abuse@FTC.gov.

You are laying a brick in a wall to prevent further abuse. Also, please report the fraud by contacting the US Secret Service which can be found in the white pages of your telephone directory under "U.S. Government".

Internet Fraud - puppy purchase scams

Con Artists, phlim phlam artists, imposters, internet scammers,rip-off artists, etc are looking for puppy buyers worldwide with deals too good to be true. Here are some of their “story lines” and deceiving promises and tales …

You have found a classified ad in your local newspaper; or a posting to Craigslist.com, or a web site, etc advertising two puppies; typically Yorkies or English Bulldogs and have responded via email. You rarely have the opportunity to reach the seller/broker by telephone. You have chosen to enter into a lengthy email relationship with what turns out to be an overseas person alledging to be a branch office of Air Animal or other easily recognized animal transport agency or service.

You are told a variety of "stories" .. one for example is as follows ....the owner was forced to move out of the country suddenly (new job) and the puppy is still your waiting for a new home. Do not succumb to the sense of urgency created by the con artist.

In order to expedite the puppies purchase and move, you are asked to wire US dollars to Laounde, in the country of Cameroon, on the African continent. The con artist is working out of an Internet cafe, and not in what we would regard typically as an office. The person you may end up talking to barely speaks English, and when doing so is difficult to understand,

To acquire this puppy, either a Yorkie or Bulldog, at an unheard of low price. You are encouraged to wire money (US Dollars) to a total stranger in another country.

Or , the imposter, con artist, trickster will identify a “middle man” contact (usually a woman) in for example: Tennessee/USA ...to have you send your hard earned dollars to.

You will be asked to send money via Western Union wire transfer or Wal-Mart’s Money Gram transfer no later than a Friday or a Saturday. The scammer imposes an artificial deadline; and becomes angry when you do not comply.

Then you are told additional funds are needed for insurance, veterinary procedures, customs inspections, etc. The imposters, scammers, con men, rip-off artists set the "hook" with a small amount of an early remittance; and then seek to have you wire more money for additional services.

In all classical stings, scams, rip-offs, etc … a sense of urgency is created by the con artist to move you along into the sting. Do not succumb to the urgency!

You are instructed to contact Air Animal.com to finalize receipt of pet over a weekend --- typically on a Saturday or Sunday. Guess what? Air Animal Pet Movers, based in Tampa,Florida has business hours of 8 - 5 .. Monday thru Friday, and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

You then discover Air Animal is closed on weekends (i.e. Saturday, Sunday)

By Monday, you contact Air Animal by telephone concerning the delivery of your theoretical puppy purchase, which never existed in the first place. You've been had !

Can't find the microchip ? Replace the battery !

Moving a pet to an EU country requires microchip identification. Yesterday, Wednesday, 13 February 2008, we inserted a ResQ microchip into "Henry" .. a toy poodle, scheduled to fly to Paris, France in May of this year with his family as accompanied cabin baggage.

After successful insertion under the skin in the mid-scapular area .. we scanned the pet to verify the chip ... and, lo and behold .. no evidence of the chip on the ResQ i MAX Black Label Reader --- a reader/scanner manufactred by Bayer.

Fortunately, we had an additional i MAX Black Label reader by DATA MARS SA .. and, yes .. the inserted chip was immediately read and observed.

Summary: if the scanning of a dog or cat for a microchip is not immediately evident ... replace the battery in the reader and try again.

Wooden Boxes - coming October 2008

.. British Airways in a recent press release to the air cargo services industry, and its forwarder agents indicated the implementation in October 2008 of the requirement for the usage of 1/2 inch plywood in the construction of wooden boxes for pet travel.

..comments from the members of various pet travel associations were numerous and often carrying a message of humor ... from England came Nigel Hurst indicating he and his colleagues were heading off to the fitness center to be able by the fall of next year to lift these heavyweight boxes.

.. British Airways came back to say the old fashioned plastic containers would be acceptable for pet transportation.

Flight Kennel Requirements

The Animal Welfare Act, a federal law enforced by the USDA, sets the standards for animal transportation. Your pet must be able to stand up, lie down, sit and turn around in the travel container. Separate food and water cups are required.

A simple test to see if your shipping container is the correct size for your animal is to have the animal stand directly next to the container. If any part of your pet is taller than the shipping container, you need the next larger size.

If you are supplying the shipping container, Air Animal reserves the right to replace and/or modify the shipping container at additional cost, to meet federal standards.
